Frequently Asked Questions

General

Do you work with clients outside of Bend, Oregon?

Absolutely. While we love being a part of the Bend community, modern tools make it easy for us to work with clients across the country via video calls. Whether you are local or in a different time zone, our process and support remain the same.

Do I need to already be "good with money" to work with you?

Not at all. In fact, most people seek coaching because they feel overwhelmed or uncertain. Our job isn’t to judge where you are, but to give you the tools and confidence to get where you want to go. If you feel like you aren’t “good with money,” you are exactly who we’re here to help.

What makes Scholl Cornerstone different from other financial coaches or consultants?

Many advisors focus strictly on the math. While the numbers are vital, we focus on the person and the purpose behind them. We bring a blend of strategic business rigor and deep, judgment-free empathy. We don’t just give you a spreadsheet; we help you build the discipline and mindset needed to sustain freedom long-term.

How much do your services cost?

Pricing depends on the scope of the coaching or consulting engagement. We offer a variety of structures, from intensive short-term planning to ongoing strategic support. During our Discovery Call, we’ll provide a clear, transparent quote based on your specific needs.

What does "Rooted in hope, built for freedom" mean?

It is our guiding philosophy. Many people come to us feeling stuck or hopeless. We believe that sustainable change must start with the belief that a better future is possible (Hope). The goal of every system, budget, or strategy we create isn’t restriction—it’s to give you the choice and peace that comes with true financial and operational Freedom.

Is there a story behind the Proverbs verse on your site?

Proverbs 15:22 states, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” This is the cornerstone of why we do what we do. None of us were meant to navigate life’s biggest challenges alone. Having trusted advisors to provide perspective and wisdom is often the difference between a plan on paper and success.

Personal Financial Coaching

What does a financial coaching relationship actually look like?

It’s a collaborative partnership. We start with a deep dive into where you are today and where you want to be. Then, we meet regularly to build your custom roadmap, tackle immediate hurdles, and establish the habits that lead to success. Think of us as strategists, encouragers, and accountability partners all in one.

Is this the same as financial therapy or counseling?

While coaching can be very therapeutic because it reduces stress and increases clarity, we are not licensed therapists or mental health counselors. We focus on your relationship with money, your behavior, and your practical strategy. If we identify deeper trauma or mental health needs, we will always recommend seeking a clinical professional.

I'm going through a major life change (divorce, job loss, a new chapter). Is that the kind of thing you help with?

Absolutely. Transitions are when we need clarity the most. We specialize in helping clients navigate the “messy middle” of life’s big changes. We’ll work to stabilize your situation, understand your new reality, and build a plan that gives you security and confidence as you move forward.

Do you use a specific method, like Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps?

We are trained in various financial methodologies, including the Ramsey Solutions approach. However, we believe that a “one-size-fits-all” method doesn’t work for everyone. We use established best practices as a foundation but tailor every plan to fit your specific values, goals, and circumstances.

How long does coaching typically take?

True change takes time, but you will often feel a massive sense of relief after just the first few meetings. Most clients find that 3 to 6 months of consistent coaching is the “sweet spot” for building lasting habits and seeing significant progress toward their goals.

Small Business Consulting

What kind of businesses do you work with?

We focus on small businesses, from solopreneurs to teams of 20+. Our background is diverse, but we thrive helping service-based businesses, creatives, and non-profits build the operational and financial backbone they need to grow without burning out.

I'm not in financial trouble, I just don't understand my numbers. Is that still a fit?

Absolutely. In fact, that’s exactly when you should seek help. Many profitable businesses fail because the owner didn’t understand their cash flow or margins. We’ll work to make your numbers clear and useful, so they become a tool for strategy rather than a source of stress.

Do you do bookkeeping?

We do not offer standalone bookkeeping services. However, we often work alongside your bookkeeper to ensure the data they provide is used to make smart strategic decisions. If you don’t have a bookkeeper yet, we can help you set up or clean up your systems and recommend long-term solutions.

What's the difference between what you do and what a CPA does?

A CPA focuses on tax compliance and historical data—looking at what happened in the past to satisfy the IRS. As consultants, we focus on the present and the future. We help you understand what your numbers mean for your day-to-day operations and your growth strategy. Think of a CPA as your tax historian and us as your strategic partners.

Can you help with more than just finances — like operations or staffing?

Yes. Our consulting work is holistic. We often find that a “financial” problem is actually an operational or staffing problem in disguise. We help with workflow design, project management, and strategic staffing decisions to ensure your entire business is built for freedom and sustainability.

Still have questions? We’re here to help you find the clarity you need.
